Centreville HVAC Repair That Starts With a Real Diagnosis

Brick Street Plumbing Heat & Air offers AC repair in Centreville, VA for central air conditioners and heat pumps, with licensed HVAC technicians available 24/7 and the same rate at night as during the day. Tell us what the system is doing, whether that is blowing warm air, freezing up, leaking water or refusing to start, and a technician will trace it to the failed part. You hear the cause and the fix before work begins. Call (240) 969-4911 when your house starts warming up.

Centreville is an unincorporated community in western Fairfax County, stretched along I-66 and Route 29, and its housing is a mix of townhouse rows and single-family neighborhoods such as Little Rocky Run. In townhouse developments the condensers often sit side by side in small back yards, where mulch, dryer lint and grass clippings collect on the coils. Muggy Northern Virginia summers keep these systems running hard for months. Our Centreville service page covers the plumbing and heating work we do here as well.

KNOW YOUR SYSTEM

Heat Pump or Air Conditioner? It Changes the Repair

Many Centreville townhouses cool with a heat pump instead of a standard air conditioner paired with a gas furnace. From the outside they look nearly identical. The difference is that a heat pump runs year-round, heating in winter and cooling in summer, so its parts accumulate more hours. That matters during a repair. A heat pump has a reversing valve, a defrost control board and sometimes electric backup heat strips, all of which can fail in ways a plain air conditioner cannot. If your system heats fine but will not cool, the reversing valve or its solenoid is one of the first things we check. Our technicians work on both types every week, and our heat pump repair page explains the winter side.

Parts We Test Before Recommending Anything

A short, methodical checklist saves you from paying for the wrong part.

Thermostat and low-voltage wiring

A dead thermostat battery, a loose wire or a bad setting can mimic an equipment failure. We rule those out first.

Capacitor and contactor

These electrical parts in the outdoor unit wear out with heat and use. A failed capacitor is among the most frequent reasons a condenser will not start.

Refrigerant circuit

We read pressures and temperatures to confirm the charge. A low charge means a leak, and we look for it instead of just topping the system off.

Indoor coil and condensate drain

A dirty evaporator coil cuts airflow and can freeze. A clogged drain line sends water where it should not go.

Blower motor and filter

Weak airflow strains every other part of the system. We check the blower and the filter, which you can replace on a simple schedule.

Fantastic service - bought a home with a very old hot water heater, and Brick Street’s quote came out to be substantially less than the other plumbers I spoke with. No compromise on service for the price, though - Mary was incredibly responsive and friendly when it came to scheduling a time to install the new water heater, and Tylerr did an outstanding job getting the water heater set up and running. Overall very easy to work with, reasonably priced, and professional!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Service – Highly Recommend Brick Street Plumbing Water Heaters I recently had my entire HVAC system replaced after my old unit had been in my home for over 20 years. I requested an estimate through Home Depot, and they referred me to Brick Street Plumbing. Water Heaters, From beginning to end, my experience was excellent! Brian came to my home, carefully explained the different options available, and walked me through the entire installation process. He was very professional, knowledgeable, patient, and always available to answer my questions. Communication with Brian was outstanding throughout the entire project. One of the best parts of the installation was that they were able to relocate my water heater into an unused space in my basement. Update 10/2/2026 The manager got in touch with us and promptly sent out a service technician that was able to quickly diagnose and troubleshoot the issue with our thermostat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We got our AC replaced by Brick Street through Home Depot. After a week our AC wasn't working so we had to put in a service call. They came out and fixed it. Then our heating wasn't working and we put in a service call to have a tech come out to and troubleshoot but their HVAC department has been non responsive via email or voice mail. We are not able to get in contact with them at all. Will not be doing business with this company again. Very poor customer service.

AFTER THE FIX

Keeping a Centreville System Running Through August

Once the repair is done, a few habits help. Keep two feet of clear space around the condenser, rinse the outside coil gently with a hose in spring, and change the filter on schedule. Keep supply and return vents open in every room, even unused ones, since closing them raises pressure in the ducts and starves the coil of air. An annual tune-up catches worn parts before they leave you without cooling on a heat-wave weekend. Our AC repair service page has more detail on what we fix, and the AC maintenance page explains what a tune-up covers. We serve the communities around Centreville too, listed on our service area page.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my AC keep freezing up in Centreville?
An AC freezes when the indoor coil gets too cold, which usually happens because airflow is restricted or the refrigerant charge is low. A clogged filter, closed vents, a dirty coil or a weak blower can all cause it. Turn the system off and run only the fan to thaw the ice, then call for service, because repeated freezing can damage the compressor.
Does an air conditioner need refrigerant added every year?
No. Refrigerant circulates in a sealed loop and is not used up the way fuel is. If your system needs more refrigerant, it has a leak somewhere. Adding refrigerant without finding the leak only delays the problem. We check the charge, look for the source and recommend a repair that addresses it, or tell you when the leak points toward replacement.
Who offers HVAC repair in Centreville, VA after hours?
Brick Street Plumbing Heat & Air takes HVAC repair calls in Centreville 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays. There are no overtime fees, so a late-night visit is priced the same as a weekday afternoon. Our technicians are licensed and factory-certified on the equipment they install. Call (240) 969-4911 to reach us.
What does it mean when my AC trips the breaker?
A breaker that trips when the air conditioner starts usually points to an electrical fault, such as a failing capacitor, a shorted fan motor, a compressor drawing too much current or a loose connection. Resetting it once is reasonable. If it trips again, leave it off and call a technician, since repeatedly resetting it can damage the equipment or the wiring.
How often should I change my air filter during summer?
Check it every month during heavy cooling season and replace it when it looks gray or clogged. Thin one-inch filters often need changing every one to three months, while thicker media filters last longer. Homes with pets, recent renovation dust or allergy concerns should change filters more often. A clean filter is the cheapest way to protect your system.
